Thank you for discussing another interesting topic! I personally use citrus pectin, in the form of Pectasol, to reduce inflammation. When needed, it works well for unwinding inflammation in my middle back. Within a few days of using Pectasol, my back inflammation is gone. It works by dimming the Galacten-3 protein.
Dr. Isaac Eliaz, MD, the formulator of Pectasol, has spent decades researching citrus pectin.
Agree. But as I discovered timing is critical. The bottle states “take on an empty stomach”… that is very misleading. It does not say DON’T take with other medications, minerals, vitamins or nutraceuticals… VERY big difference.
Yes, I agree with you! An acquaintance of mine, a retired Harvard-trained MD, warned me that pectin can interfere with medications. I gave her some pectin, and she was concerned about pectin reducing the efficacy of some of her medications.
Oh wow, it helped you with middle back pain? I don’t have aches and pains but after a sudden lower back spasm after decorating for Christmas last year, which went away after a few weeks, middle back pain settled in…daily :/ No stretches or exercises seem to help.
I was following Dr. Eliaz's research on Pectasol and decided to give it a try, following the dosing instructions closely. Over time, I used it multiple times to reduce inflammation, and it worked every time. I took two doses per day, one in the morning and one in the evening. I only use it as needed for inflammation.
Dr. Marik did an excellent job explaining the use of Pectin for cancer therapy.
Thanks for your input. I think it is difficult to take 3 times a day if one is taking other medications. Twice a day seem like an obvious compromise. I wish their web site woulds be more comforting and truthful about the dosing strategy. .. which is not simple.
Excellent. It is an aggressive cancer and you need to take an extensive program of repurposed drugs and nutraceuticals. Your oncologist will likely disagree, but they are unfortunately clueless. I would do the metabolic trap.As about metronomic capecitabine
Many of the published MCP studies actually used PectaSol-C specifically (which is sold commercially), not generic citrus fiber. Molecular weight, purification and contaminant testing likely matter a lot here given how heavily citrus peels are treated.
Pectasol is a high quality brand. I wish the instructions on the bottle and their web site were not so deceptive regarding dosing. This is very important …. It states “on an empty stomach”.. what that really-means is not just no food but no medications.
In Canada we have AOR brand. Here what it said on MCP:
Take one scoop mixed with water or juice three times daily with food or immediately after meals (to minimize gastrointestinal irritation and prevent too rapid absorption), or as directed by a qualified health care practitioner.
Cautions
Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Diarrhea, stomach irritation, nausea, slowed heart rate and abnormal heart rhythm may occur. Discontinue use and contact your health care practitioner if you develop severe stomach pain, irregular heartbeat, chest pain, or for use beyond four weeks. Vomiting has been known to occur, in which case discontinue use and consult your health care practitioner.
Modified citrus pectin (MCP) is derived from citrus peels. Regular pectin is a good source of fibre but is not able to be absorbed by the intestines. MCP is broken down into smaller fragments to be more easily absorbed in the digestive tract.
There are multiple studies that show MCP to be helpful in detoxification processes. It does this by binding to toxic metals in the blood stream and increasing the urinary excretion without disrupting the essential mineral levels.
AOR Advantage
AOR’s MCP is refined to match the specific size and weight of the pectin used in these studies. AOR presents MCP in its pure form, without any added flavour or colour. This means that the physical properties of the product like colour, taste and solubility are subject to change with environmental factors such as time of harvest, region of origin, soil conditions, etc.
The problem with supplements such as this is that…. Half of them say take 30 minutes before or 2 hours after a meal and so many hours away from other supplements. My son has been fighting colon cancer for 5 years… almost impossible to do this especially when they eat so sporadically
I wasn’t clear on the reason my alternative doc recommended PectaSol. I had suffered a medullary stroke and began addressing vascular inflammation with
Re Vasca. I ingested the PectaSol in water for 2 days in the AM and it bound my entire digestive tract! I quit. Returning the product my provided suggested the capsules simply because it “does a lot of good” reducing inflammation. Thank you for posting your detailed, honest and essential information on this product. I did try the capsules and the results frightened me - constipation(which is practically unknown to me), pressure on my bladder, a sleepless night, pressure on my lumbar nerve omg - truly a nightmare. I thought my time was about up. Thinking that parasites may be the issue and that PectaSol was feeding them I went to our emergency supplies and took Ivermectin. Gratefully, I did begin to regain peace, had a good night rest and swore off PectaSol. I am not treating cancer so there are other ways to address my metabolic imbalances. As this situation was resolving your post appeared first thing in substack. A miracle. Thank you. I passed it on to the doc and office manager. They sell PectaSol and really need to bundle it with your article! Bless your and all your efforts.
Would it be feasible to take MCP early in the morning, and then go back to bed until my normal wake up time a few hours later? I intermittent fast and don't normally eat till later at night so would it be OK to take on a completely empty stomach and not eat for that many hours after taking it in the morning?
Yes that sounds fine. I must say this is very annoying. I wish I had known about this earlier. It makes taking ones meds very complicated. I previously took twice a day will all my meds (on an empty stomach) which was completely wrong. One now has too coordinate timing as best one can. Taking three times a day seems logistically impossible.
Yes very annoying. It's difficult to get one dose in, between levothyroxine, intermittent fasting, and all the supplements, taking water soluble before meals and fat soluble with meals. There aren't enough hours.
I love Pectasol! I take it 3 times a day: morning, afternoon, and night. I can work around my 2 meals. BUT what about other supplements that also have to be taken away from food?? That’s pretty much impossible. So when I started taking Nattokinase, I emailed the Econugenics people to ask. They told me not to worry about taking Natto or other supplements with Pectasol. They said that Pectasol is different from other binders in this respect and that combining would not only be fine but could actually boost the substances combined with it. So I have been combining with several supplements. Now I’m not sure what to do. I can move some of the supplements back into mealtimes where the food may interfere with absorption. But what about the Natto + Bromelain and others? There aren’t enough hours in the day to separate all.
Terri: I have reviewed this topic in detail and updated the post on my substack. The people from Econugenics are not being truthful (lying). There is no question of doubt the Pectasol interferes with the absorption of multiple drugs. This should have been clearly stated on the product label and on the Pectasol Website. Econugenics are being untruthful and disingenuous. They state it should be taken on an empty stomach.. I presumed this meant with no food. Actually it means more than this; no foods or medications,or minerals, or vitamins, etc. This is personal for me as I have been taking Pectasol for over a year; I took it in the morning and night on an empty stomach but with all my other medications. This discovery was very upsetting for me and I now have to change the timing of Pectasol in relation to meals and medications, Please review my updated substack. That is the truth and the whole truth.
Thank you, Dr. Marik! Thank you for this post. Thank you for the updating. Thank you for setting me straight after I was not told the truth by the Econugenics people. Now I rethink and readjust, as you have had to do also. Distressing that time and resources have been lost. Recalculating…
A tip for timing: I have a glass of P-C near my bed at night. When I wake up early or in the middle of the night, I drink it so won’t impact my meals or nutraceuticals. It’s working for me … maybe it will for you
This is a good example of how early mechanistic and preclinical signals can look compelling on paper, but still sit far away from established clinical evidence in real-world care.
I appreciate the information on MCP. I had a successful liver resection and gallbladder removal with confirmed Cholangiocarcinoma almost 6 weeks ago, clean margins, no cancer in the nearest 2 lymph nodes, no metastatic spread right now. I started using MCP about 10 days post surgery and have yet to be able to use more than once per day because of pain meds and digestive changes. I am hoping to be able to go to 2x a day soon if I can tolerate. I have read Dr. Marik’s guide to repurposed drugs. MCP is a shot in the dark for me, because I am sure my upcoming oncologist consultation will result in a recommendation for “mop up” follow up with capecitabine. I am not excited about this drug’s toxicity profile! I have some tough decisions ahead, but am already using MCP, low carb diet, and started ivermectin while I wait for the oncologist’s recommendation. Dr. Marik’s work is vital for those of us dealing with high reoccurring, rare cancers!
Ok, serious practical question. MCP, particularly when combined with keto/low carb diet, seems to lead to constipation, even when drinking lots of water and eating salads, vegetables. This is not good when the treatment is being used for colon cancer with liver metastasis. Should fiber be used, or more complex carbs be added?

Citrus is heavily sprayed with pesticides and coated with wax. Is this a factor in the finished ingested product?
I dont think so.. but cant say for certain.

Thanks for you insight and comments
Is MCP also effective for removing heavy metal toxicity?
Yes, I think so.
Do you suggest using MCP as a cancer preventative along with your ROOT protocol? Thank you
No. Not that I can recall.. I will do a post on the root protocol soon.

Thank you so much for this important post, Dr. Marik.
This is a good example of how early mechanistic and preclinical signals can look compelling on paper, but still sit far away from established clinical evidence in real-world care.
However, MCP has proven clinical value in patients with prostate cancer.
I appreciate the information on MCP. Yes… add soluble fiber.. but beware like MCP is does interfere with drug absorption.. so should not be taken together.
Hello friends, can you recommend a good oncologist for such a cancer because everything in our country has failed
I have been taking Pectasol on an empty stomach but alongside Berberine, Green tea extract and black seed oil. Is that okay?
Nope. You shosuld not take any other medication with the Pectasol. Please see the update substack.
I have been taking this for 1.5 years at the advice of my naturopath who works with oncologists.
He said it can be taken day of surgery or biopsy. Thank you for the detailed information and how to take it for the greatest impact.
Sure…
So citrus pectin is more effective than just eating a full orange (or other citrus) I’m guessing?
Yes.. absolutely..
